Week 30

The Babe:
Big news for babe's brain this week: It's starting to wrinkle and fold. This is due to the rapid growth of our little genius's brain cells. Other highlights this week:Fingernails and toenails are finally finished. Plus, the bone marrow is completely in charge of red-blood-cell production now. This is a good thing. Baby is starting to shed the lanugo—the downy hair that was covering the skin. Now that the babe is CLEARLY chubbier and better able to regulate body temp, there is no need to sport a fur coat 24/7.
"I spy an umbilical cord and the inside of my mom's uterus!" When our babe is awake, the eyes are now wide open and whittling away the hours looking around, checking out the rather dark, limited environs. Our babe hasn't gained much weight or height this week, as much energy has been channeled to the brain. The babe weighs about 3 pounds and is approximately 17 inches long, about the size of a Yorkie terrier!

Me:
Still enjoying my visible ankle bones and wondering if/when the swelling will begin? Although, I am NOT asking for it, I just vividly remember it!

Ben:
Trying to find a ways to keep motivated on school work while at home with us...we tend to be a major distraction!

Mary Alice:
Working on four new teeth this week...will it ever end??
