Week 25 - Eggplant

The Babe:
Our sweet babe attains a momentous milestone this week: if the babe were born at this point in our pregnancy, the babe would probably survive, but would require lots of assistance from doctors. The organ systems are formed well enough that babe would be all right, albeit tiny. As if that weren’t enough, other big changes are happening: the skin turns opaque and the pigments start depositing, hair color starts developing (supposing there is hair...) and the spinal structure is forming. The babe may even begin to rotate out of the breech position in preparation for the upcoming gondolier-ship, where the babe will make the journey down the birth canal!

The Parents:
The first thing my students said to me in one class was, "Stand up Miss K we want to see how big you are!!" Another student responded, "It has only been 2 weeks, she can't be that much bigger!!" Then I stood up...student response..."Or maybe she can be!!"
The babe has been extremely active these days and definitely favors ONE particular spot for kicking/punching/somersaulting...occasionally I wonder if there is a bruise on the inside, right at that marker!!
Ben has been getting a lot of school work/internship work done this week and that is really encouraging to both of us. And for some reason just knowing that the likelihood of the babe surviving on its own at this point is quite a comforting feeling!
